Abstract

Following is an extract from Woman's Work in India and Africa (In connection with the Free Church of Scotland).1 Published quarterly by the Ladies Society of the Free Church of Scotland for promoting Christian education among the females of India and South Africa, these were small one penny-priced books, Founded in 1837, the Society later came to be known as the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Free Church of Scotland.

The selected extracts present not only a missionary perception of the life of women in India but also reflects upon the nature and purpose of women’s education as viewed by the Christian missionaries.
